Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus Pressure Cooker Review
There are quite a few Instant Pots on the market to choose from these days and one of the latest releases and most talked about is the Instant Pot Duo Evo.
In this Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus pressure cooker review we take a closer look at the new kid on the block to see if it is worth purchasing or indeed worth spending that little bit extra over other Instant Pots or pressure cookers on the market.
If you are looking to buy your first pressure cooker / multi-cooker or simply looking to upgrade your existing one this review will give you the run down on what you can expect from the Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus.
Functions & Features
The Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus is a 10-in-1 electric pressure cooker, meaning it can perform 10 cooking functions in one unit.
Most electric pressure cookers these days are built to perform multiple functions but that doesn’t mean that they do any of them well. Having a list of functions is one thing but being able to do any of them (or all of them) well is another.
The Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus functions include:
- Pressure cooker
- Rice cooker
- Slow cooker
- Yogurt maker
- Cake maker
We were very impressed with the cooking functions, as you would expect with an Instant Pot product. They were simple to use and required no previous experience with using them.
We cooked a range of dishes including chili, risotto, curry, garlic & brown sugar chicken, and ribs. Each and every dish was delicious, simple to make, and made in no time at all. The meat was cooked to perfection and the chili had a real depth of flavor.
We have cooked similar dishes in other pressure cookers and found some of them to be lacking in one way or another.
A really nice feature of this version of the Instant Pot is the inclusion of two non-slip handles on the inner pot. This makes a real difference in safety and how you handle the inner pot. With previous Instant Pots, you would have to use silicone mitts or over gloves but that is not the case with the Duo Evo Plus.
It may only seem like a small addition but we found it made a real difference and something we are glad they have included.
Functions at a glance:
- 20+ enhancements.
- Cooks fast & saves time.
- Cooks up to 70 % faster.
- The new 1200w heating element reduces preheating.
- Pressure release time is shortened with our new quick cool technology.
- The new easy seal lid automatically seals the pressure cooker.
- New and improved steam diffusing cover takes the fear out of the pressure release process.
- 48 customizable pre-set options.
- Stainless steel inner pot with easy-grip nonslip handles and a flat inner surface.
- Biggest display yet.
- The cooking progress indicator shows clearly where you are in the cooking cycle
An additional feature that we really like with the Duo Evo Plus is the inclusion of the new bright LCD interface screen. This is a real improvement over the previous Duo model. It allows you to easily see when the cooking process is finished and because the screen is lovely and clear you can see the information from across the kitchen, meaning you don’t have to keep walking over to see when your meal will be cooked.
The Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus comes with 10+ built-in safety features including:
- Overheat Protection
- Safety Lid Lock
- Handles on the inner pot
- Quick cool lid
- Steam diffusing cover
- Pressure control
Pressure cookers over the years have received a bad reputation with regards safety. That has changed in recent years, especially since the introduction of electric pressure cookers. The Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus ups the safety stakes once again. The safety features included with this appliance is very impressive and not included as a gimmick.
If you are in the market for a new pressure cooker, whether it be your first pressure cooker or you are looking to upgrade, the Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus is a good choice. As mentioned in the review the Duo Evo Plus is much more than a pressure cooker and for the price it really is good value for money.
The Duo Evo Plus is a bit more expensive than the previous model (Instant Pot Duo) but we feel with the improvements that have been made it is well worth that extra investment (check out the latest price on Amazon here).
Some of the improvements that sets the Duo Evo Plus apart from the Instant Pot Duo is the enhanced safety features such as the steam release valve and the very useful heat-proof handles on the inner pot. Being able to remove the inner pot from the appliance without the risk of burning yourself is a great feature and one you will wonder how you lived without.
The inner pot is also nice and solid and the fact that you can use that pot to cook with on the stove is great. Not having to keep swapping pans makes a big difference and cuts down on the amount of washing up that needs to be done.
The new display screen is lovely and clear and you will never be left guessing how long is left of your cooking or what is going on inside the appliance. All in all, the Duo Evo Plus is an improvement on the earlier versions of the Instant Pot. That is not to say the earlier versions are bad, because they most certainly are not, it’s just that the Duo Evo Plus has upped the stakes.
As you can expect, with all these additional features comes a higher price tag. If you are looking for an Instant Pot in particular and can afford to spend that little bit extra we feel the Duo Evo Plus is worth the extra investment. However, there are many good pressure/multi-cookers on the market so if price is an issue you still have plenty of options (2 cheaper pressure cookers that we would recommend are: Yedi 9-in-1 or the Instant Pot Duo 7-in-1)
In terms of performance, we found the results to be among the best we have tested. It is simple to use and with the 48 pre-set and additional functions you can get started straight away and whip up great tasting meals in no time. Each meal we made was delicious and easy to do.
We hope you found this Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus pressure cooker review helpful.
Verdict: Highly recommend.
