All American 921 Pressure Cooker Review
Finding the perfect pressure canner can be quite a challenge. Everyone wants one that can get the job done right but also keeps us out of harm’s way.
Well, All American, the brand from Virginia, might have exactly what we’re all looking for. The All American 921 Canner Pressure Cooker is 21.5 quarts in size, built to perform, and also comes with several safety features built into it.
All of that sounds fantastic but is it really a good choice for those into or looking to get into canning?
That’s what we’re going to find out in this All American 921 Canner Pressure Cooker Review.
Materials & Build
All American makes this beautiful canner using hand-cast aluminum with a satin finish. So, not only is it tough and solid, but it’s also very pleasing to the eye no matter where you place it in your kitchen.
But of course, it’s not all about looks. That hand-cast aluminum also does an excellent job in distributing heat evenly throughout the unit, so each unit will heat up correctly each and every time. This can be an issue with some pressure cookers on the market, but luckily not this one.
On top of that, you’ll also appreciate the lack of a gasket or rubber seal when you open the canner. Instead, All American built this unit to rely on what they call a ‘steam tight seal’. Even though there’s only metal touching metal, none of the air escapes, and the canner always maintains its pressure.
Also, due to the fact they have left out the gasket and/or rubber seal, there is the added benefit that there is not an additional part that you’ll need to replace after a lot of wear and tear. The rubber seals have historically been known to cause issues when they don’t work properly and therefore need to be replaced.
A Peek Inside
Inside, you’ll find an abundance of space for all your canning needs. Depending on the size of your jars, you could fit anywhere between 16-19 Pints (or 7 Quarts total). What more, the canner also comes with two internal racks for you to stack your jars and use the space efficiently.
Overall, that high capacity is fantastic for bulk canning, since you can do much larger sized batches at one time.
Of course, a canner is only as good as the safety it provides. That’s where the All American 921 canner pressure cooker really shines.
For starters, the unit includes a geared steam gauge that’s very easy to read, even when things get hot and steamy. If the pressure gets too high you will be able to clearly see the gauge and can respond appropriately and quickly. Having said that, the All American 921 Canner Pressure Cooker will automatically adjusts the pressure if it does get too high.
You’ll also have plenty of control over the pressure at all times. This canner has a pressure regulator that you can set to either 5, 10, or even 15 PSI, depending on your needs.
No matter what happens, though, you can rest assured that the safety control valve and overpressure plug are both there to prevent any mishaps.
It is fair to say that if you are looking for a technologically advanced pressure cooker/canner then you would not be looking at the All American 921 but at an electric pressure cooker like the Ninja Foodi. However, this is what fans of this appliance love! It may not have all the bells and whistles of rival pressure cookers but it can’t be beaten in terms of build and performance. The All American requires zero to little maintenance and is built to last for years and years.
If you are looking for a pressure cooker for canning, this is by far and away the best on the market. The large capacity allows for more jars to be canned at any one time and if you decided to use it as a pressure cooker to cook meals you will have a real beast on your hands! We didn’t actually use it as a pressure cooker for cooking food but we have no doubts it will work extremely well.
The All American 921 is not suitable for dishwashing but we found it to be extremely easy to clean by hand and because there aren’t many parts to it it’s also very easy to dry.
The cost of the All American is on the higher end of the scale but you are clearly getting a very well-made and solid pressure cooker that will last for years and years. We believe it is well worth the money and would be more than happy to recommend it to anyone looker for a larger pressure cooker/canner.
For anyone wanting to buy their first canner or upgrade to a better one, the All American 921 is a perfect choice. The All American 921 offers plenty of capacity, a highly durable and robust build, and most importantly, plenty of safety features to give you peace of mind while you use it.
